about

After my friend and bandmate, Matt, passed away by suicide things were very dark. I recorded 4 songs for a split a month later, all of them for Matt, and "How Shall We Be Saved" was one of them. The first version was slow dark and mourning but as I began to see what a light Matt had been to others and the joy that still surrounded his life even after a terrible end, it became what it is today. A celebration of my friend and the beauty he gave us.

lyrics

Swing low
Over me
Break branches
And be my feet
Call me upward
With a song to sing
Oh my lord
Oh my lord

Be my wings
When I can’t walk
Hold my hands
As I’m a child
Cos I was blind
As a fool
I used things
I messed you up

Carry me on them wings
Oh my lord
Break my heart
With your songs
My sweet dove
It is you that I see
Oh my lord

I saw you stand
And I saw you fall
One leg beneath
One arm on top
Kissing moonlight
Beneath the shade
Of your mother’s branches

Oh, ride on my shoulders
